Have you read The History of Breastfeeding by Marilyn Yalom? In it she covers a lot about breastfeeding art. Depending on the age of the painting and the country of origin, I know breastfeeding was often depicted in art to encourage patriotism. In some eras men were sometimes shown breastfeeding. I don't remember why but it was something about strength - notice the muscles, notice the tandem nursing and the confidence exuded. Anyway, I'm not much of an art curator and I wish I could remember more of the details to tell you but definitely check out the book if you want to learn more.
