True Laura, though keep in mind Lansinoh is a wholly owned subsidiary of WHO Code violator Pigeon and has recently purchased mOmma which does *not* abide by the WHO Code in marketing. So I would take Lansinoh off this list. But, yes, it is about *marketing* not sale and other pump companies abide by the Code.

This is NOT about SELLING bottles and nipples, it is about MARKETING. Ameda, Lansinoh, Hygeia-they also sell pumps as well as bottles and nipples but they stay within WHO code with their marketing….

Kay, this issue of whether Medela products are valuable is separate from whether the company violates the Code. Unless obligated by professional ethical codes, each of us must make out own decisions about what corporate conduct we will tolerate and what we won’t.

Lets keep this in perspective. Medela is one of only 2 manufactures who produce a supplemental nursing system product that HELPS mothers breastfeed. Due to a medical condition I am unable to produce enough breastmilk for my baby. This product allows me to use donor breastmilk to feed my baby AT THE BREAST. How wonderful! I am greatful to Medela for this. Women are going to choose to do what they want regardless of marketing. Medela is a business, and just like any other businees their priority is going to be profits. Let’s not kid ourselves about that.

Medela is not “the only game in town” and their arrogance in deliberate WHO Code violation should speak volumes of their priorities (profits)!
I support ILCA and suggest that this is an opportunity to explore competitors (ie Ameda) who also offer quality products.

Medela has long sold bottles and done so in a manner that complies with the WHO Code. If you read the links above in this blog post, you can read how the change in *marketing* strategy violates the Code.
